About the National Port Authority of Liberia

The National Port Authority (NPA) was established by an Act of the National Legislature in 1967 and amended in 1970 as a state-owned corporation to manage, plan, and build all public ports in Liberia. The NPA system encompasses four ports:

  1. Freeport of Monrovia: This is the largest and the main port within the Authority’s network.
  2. Port of Buchanan
  3. Port of Greenville
  4. Port of Harper

The strategic vision for the NPA is to become a premier port in West Africa through partnerships with both the public and private sectors. By doing so, the NPA aims to strengthen the economy, improve international trade, and promote tourism and community development. Our Mission

The Strategic Vision & Mission of the National Port Authority (NPA) is to become a premier Port in West Africa, Strengthening the Economy, Improving International Trade, and Promoting Tourism and Community Development. It also focuses on reducing cost of trade, maintain an efficient modern port facility in the MRU basin, create an environment that promotes, provide, and maintain safe sea Port operation for business transactions in the subregion.

Our Vision

Today, the National Port Authority boasts a throughput of more than 2.3 million metric tons and employs more than 250 Liberian and foreign nationals. Further, NPA is an International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) compliant client, as the Freeport of Monrovia and the Port of Buchanan are Security Level One ports. The security of our clients' imports and exports is of utmost importance to us.
